Special homework assignment – it sounds a little like the artists should do it for punishment. Not really. It’s special because only a few artists were approached and it is actually an extra task, one might say as a reward. The special task Animal loosely follows the topic Woman and Animal from 2009.
My dad the gallery owner, a grandfather in anticipation at that time, wanted to make me happy with this topic and at the same time say goodbye to me as his long-time right hand. He even gave me such a great competence that I could reach out to my favourite artists. That was absolutely great, but at the same time the freedom of choice weighed on me. Over the previous 17 years, I had grown to like so many artists here in the gallery, both for what they did and, simply, for what they were like. In the end, I chose the ones that I thought were best suited for the Animal topic. At the same time, I knew the outcome would be really diverse.
And so there was an exhibition where even my ceramic and bronze animals grunted with pleasure when they were surrounded by other animals from such masters as Rittstein, Jirků, Jiránek, or Kuklík.
With this exhibition ended one beautiful era of my life, when I was free and childless. In hindsight, I can say it was imperfect.
