Jiří Slíva
Josef Blecha
* 1952
He graduated at VŠE (the University of Economics) in Prague. He started drawing in 1976. His cartoons have appeared in numerous periodicals such as The New York Times, The New York Times Review, The New Yorker and Playboy. He has already had almost 30 solo exhibitions. With the help of lines, Josef Blecha can elegantly capture the image. He tries to penetrate the mind of the person he portrays: It allows him to have a better idea how to depict a true nature of that personality. His work is exceptional for its clean technology. Blecha´s output is comparable to famous Czech cartoonists´ work such as were František Bidlo, Antonín Pelc and Adolf Hoffmeister. His art is seen in private collections through Europe, America and Canada.
